Non-Psychoactive CBD Products

When most people talk about the “drug” marijuana, what they are really talking about is a plethora of different chemical compounds whose effects compound on one another, all of which are found in the cannabis plant. It is a vast oversimplification to refer to marijuana as a drug, and furthermore, it limits any further study into what produces the effects users enjoy by consuming or smoking the plant. The main psychoactive compound in marijuana plants is tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC. While it is only one out of more than one hundred of the cannabinoids found within marijuana, it is the one that is most commonly synthesized and used independently of the plant itself. Cannabidiol, or CBD, is the second most important of the cannabinoids found in marijuana, and the extent of its interaction with THC has still not been fully understood. Cannabidiol, unlike THC, is not believed to be a psychoactive compound. However, the full effects that CBD has on the human body have yet to be fully uncovered, and a large amount of research is being done in order to determine the effects that it does have. From what research has already been done, scientists have hypothesized that CBD will be invaluable as a treatment for a variety of medical issues and may offer other unrelated health benefits.

First discovered more than half a century ago in the early 1940s, CBD has been determined to make up approximately forty four percent of the cannabis plant extract. As a result, for quite some time there has been a large amount of interest in doing research into what exactly happens when CBD is metabolized by the human body. For the most part, there has not been any formal scientific studies done in order to research these effects, most likely as a result of the stigma against researching illegal narcotic compounds. Marijuana is still not legal to possess on a national level in the United States, and even some of the individual compounds within the plant itself are banned specifically. CBD for example is still classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which means it is considered to have a high risk of abuse and little to no medical uses. This is despite the fact that for years many states have approved the medical use of the cannabis plants for some conditions, and CBD is one of the two main compounds that are found within it.

For years now there have been a variety of different CBD products sold as nutritional supplements or health drinks because of the non-psychoactive nature of the chemical. You can purchase everything from pure CBD oil to a CBD infused tea, all of which may offer some benefits to your quality of life. There is research being done right now that suggests CBD can be used for the treatment of seizures and some anxiety disorders. It may also help cancer patients regain their appetite for food. It is also used in some skin moisturizers and hair products.
